219 Magazine is published by the CUNY Graduate School of Journalism as a companion and complement to its award-winning NYCity News Service. While the news service focuses on spot news for the New York metropolitan area, 219 Magazine offers a broader, more timeless scope for literary reportage, narrative nonfiction and longform multimedia journalism — the journalism of issues and ideas.  Its contributors are independent freelance journalists who write and report on a broad range of subjects as they work toward their master’s degrees from the City University of New York. With state-of-the-art newsrooms and production facilities based in a historic newspaper space in Midtown Manhattan, the CUNY Graduate School of Journalism opened its doors in 2006 with the mission of preparing news professionals in the “convergence” of print, broadcast and interactive multimedia journalism.
